Window 8 Stops Responding / Freezes Error

Window 8 Stops Responding / Freezes Error

Issue:

Windows 8 may become unresponsive, and you may have to restart the computer to fix the issue.

Cause:

This problem occurs because the eMMC embedded storage device (SD Card) does not handle two concurrent commands when the device is busy and the device never recovers.

Solution:

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft that works ok most computers however they are still testing this on other devices that this does not work with. On these devices, removing the SD Card while using it except for saving/copying files seems to correct the issue. We suggest first trying to remove the SD card from your tablet and use it without the SD card in and see if that corrects the problem first. We have had many customers say that it has. If that doesn’t work, then apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. If you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend not installing the hotfix below.

  1. Download Hotfix 2792463
  2. Run the downloaded file and follow onscreen instructions
